Frequently Asked Questions
What is that popping sound during an adjustment?
An adjustment may result in the release of a gas bubble in the joint which will make a popping sound. The noise is caused by the quick change in pressure within the joint as the Chiropractor has taken the joint to its physiological end range of motion. There is usually minimal if any discomfort involved.
How does Chiropractic really work?
Chiropractic works with the extensive nerve system of the body. Nerve impulses and messages flow from the brain, down the spinal cord and out to every organ and tissue. Impulses flow back to the brain via the same route. The movement of bones throughout the body can impinge or interfere with this exchange of information by irritating the nerves. Irritated nerves produce distorted messages that are then sent to the brain and these can result in pain or illness. Chiropractic adjustments help restore the integrity of the nerve system by reducing interference with nerve transmissions and balance the brain to body connection.
What conditions do Chiropractors treat?
In the strictest sense, Chiropractors don’t treat any conditions. We help restore the body’s nerve system function to its optimal level. By reducing the pressure on the nerves, the body is able to send its own natural healing energy to the organs.
Chiropractic is about much more than back pain and neck pain. Improved nerve communication between brain and body helps everyone. We have seen patients with ear infections, asthma, hearing problems, digestive disorders, infertility, headaches, sciatica, diabetes, emotional and neurological conditions, MS, whiplash, and a variety of other conditions.
Is Chiropractic treatment safe?
Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal conditions. Critics and skeptics often try to mislead the public about the safety of adjustments. Recent major studies place the risk of danger during an adjustment to be absolutely minimal.
We have treated patients here in all age ranges. My children have been adjusted ever since birth. We’ve had patients that are over 100 years old. Chiropractic is safe.
Can I get Chiropractic care if I've had back surgery? What if I have osteoporosis?
Yes and Yes. It is important to note that surgery very often causes an instability above and/or below the level of the surgery. Establishing proper spinal motion in those areas for unimpeded nerve flow is critical. Also, the health of your bones and your specific needs will be addressed. Chiropractic care, plus nutrition and exercise, can be very helpful with osteoporosis.
Is it safe for pregnant women?
Yes. Chiropractic care helps relieve the discomfort many expectant mothers experience during pregnancy by normalizing nerve system function. Additionally, many Chiropractic patients report that their deliveries were faster and more comfortable than deliveries previous to Chiropractic care. Chiropractic adjustments can be given throughout the entire term of the pregnancy.
